What are some indoor gardening tips?

Growing plants indoors can be difficult especially if you have a small apartment or home but it is one of the best lifestyle decisions you can make as plants remove toxins and purify your home’s air.

These 15 plants are great for indoor gardening and require very little maintenance:

1. SPIDER-PLANT

When it comes to growing plants indoors, there is no easier choice than the spider-plant. Not only are they easy to care for, but they also grow well in low-light conditions and can help clean the air in our homes. Also, they are really pretty and come in different varieties. They are non-toxic, but try and keep them somewhere your cat cannot reach them (For the plant’s safety, not the cats).

2. PALMS

There are tons of different types of true palms: Areca, bamboo, parlor, and ponytail are some of the most common indoor palm plants, and they’re all pretty easy to grow, too. Palm plants don’t need a lot of light, either, which makes them great for just about any room in the house. It should be noted, however, that sago palms are toxic to pets. While the word “palm” is part of the common name, sago plants are not a “true” palm; they’re a cycad and should not be grown in homes with pets.

3. BAMBOO

Bamboo plants are one of the best indoor plants to have in your house. I remember one day coming home from work to see that my cat had been snacking on mine. Luckily, I knew that they’re non-toxic. These plants are also extremely easy to grow and fun to collect.

4. AFRICAN VIOLET

If you’re looking for easy-to-grow houseplants that have constantly-blooming and pet-friendly flowers, then African violets are for you. Keep them in a warm location where they can get plenty of light, and watch these little beauties bloom in no time.

5. BOSTON FERN

A cool room with high humidity and indirect light. That’s what you’ll need to care for this pretty plant. The care for the Boston Fern isn’t difficult, but it is specific. Try setting your fern’s pot on a tray of pebbles filled with water to keep it moist. You can also try lightly misting your fern once or twice a week to help it get the humidity it needs.

6. BURROS TAIL SUCCULENT (SEDUM MORGANIANUM)

Burros tail succulents are safe, but when it comes to ensuring that other succulents are pet-friendly houseplants, it can be hit or miss. So make sure to search for each specific variety of succulent plant you grow.

7. CAST IRON PLANT

The cast iron plant definitely lives up to its name; it’s one of the toughest houseplants out there. Not only are they beautiful, but they will thrive in just about any room of the house.

Bromeliads also come in a variety of colors, so they’re a fun plant to collect.

What’s better than an indoor plant that blooms in the dead of winter? Christmas cacti are easy to grow indoor plants that that will flower right around Christmas time, and they are gorgeous!

10. HAWORTHIA SUCCULENTS

Haworthias are delightful little succulents that form very attractive and singular small houseplants. In terms of appeal, these small, low growing plants form rosettes of fleshy green leaves that are generously covered with white, pearly warts or bands, giving them a distinctive appearance. These plants appreciate bright light, adequate moisture in the summer, and relatively drier conditions in the winter. Avoid overwatering, but don’t let them dry out too much.
